When to Install a Dual Steering Stabilizer
WHAT IS A STEERING STABILIZER?
Whether you have lifted your vehicle, added larger tires, or made any other modification to your vehicle’s suspension, it can result in changes to the steering and handling of your rig. To counter the effects of the modifications, you may consider adding a steering stabilizer to your Jeep, truck or SUV. A steering stabilizer can help improve the steering and handling of your vehicle.
HOW DOES A STEERING STABILIZER WORK?
By minimizing vibrations, a steering stabilizer is essentially a shock for your vehicle’s steering system. A steering stabilizer reduces the side-to-side motion of the tires to improve the handling and ride quality of your vehicle.SINGLE VS DUAL STEERING STABILIZER SETUP
Steering stabilizers can be configured as a single setup or a dual setup. As the names imply, a single steering stabilizer setup has one stabilizer, and a dual stabilizer configuration has two stabilizers. Your driving habits and the setup of your rig can help you decide if a dual steering stabilizer is right for you.
SHOULD I INSTALL A DUAL STEERING STABILIZER?
You may want to consider installing a dual steering stabilizer if you have made any of these modifications or drive in the following conditions:- Installed a suspension lift or level kit
- Put larger tires on your vehicle
- Trail riding
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO RUN A DUAL STEERING STABILIZER?
The main thing you need is a minimum of a 2" level on your truck or Jeep, or a 2" high front bump stop spacer. This prevents the stabilizer from hitting the bottom of the vehicle’s frame at full jounce travel. What does this mean? If your vehicle is at stock height, you CAN NOT run a Rancho® dual stabilizer steering system; the stabilizers most likely will be damaged, along with the bracket used to attach the two steering stabilizers. This will in turn cause the stabilizers to leak and be ineffective.RANCHO DUAL STABILIZERS
A Rancho steering stabilizer kit can help reduce wheel shimmy and end vibration caused by larger tires.
